The Survival Jacket – the name is synonymous with riding bikes in rainy, crappy, miserable weather or rather “surviving” said conditions.
The jacket has been in the collection for a number of seasons….The “go to” piece of apparel for Tinkoff Saxo; for those days when they wish they didn’t ride bikes for a living!
It’s interesting to note, that Tinkoff Saxo are one of the few professional teams that wear the issued rainwear by their technical suppliers. In fact the jacket has such an excellent reputation, we’ve seen rival teams wearing the jacket, the white Sporful logo, blacked out by the permanent marker….
So here’s a recap of the what, why and when of how the jacket first came to be and some of the great features, that still make ever so effective.
The idea was conceived on the eve of Milan – San Remo 2010. The jacket was to be built and constructed to the exacting specifications of the Team, what ensued were multiple prototypes. Modifications made, feedback given. To call it “just a rain jacket”wouldn’t do it justice. The design brief was to produce a piece of apparel that would keep the Saxo Bank pros comfortable and healthy, in the worst of conditions. I’m making light of the process but suffice to say Tinkoff Saxo are now equipped with the most technically refined rain jacket in the World Tour peloton.
Below are a few photo’s and something of an explanation to why this jacket is so good!
