La Balme de Yenne is a crag located next to Lac du Bourget near Chambery in France. I live an hour away from it so it’s like a second home to me. I can go there regularly and find new challenges to do. I really love this crag because we can climb it even when it rains or on a hot summer day with 30°. There are levels of difficulty for every tastes, from 6c to 9a+, and most importantly there are lots of routes between 8c and 9a. It could be classed as a Spanish type of crag, since its rock wall is 70m high and allows for climb holds. A real heaven just next door…
La Balme de Yenne est une Falaise qui se trouve à côté du Lac du Bourget proche de Chambéry en France. J’habite à une heure de voiture, alors c’est un peu la falaise de la maison. C’est pour cela que je peux y aller régulièrement et me trouver des projet. J’aime vraiment cette falaise car on peut y grimper sous la pluie ou même l’été quand il fait 30°. Il y a des voies de tous niveaux, du 6c au 9a+ et surtout, il y a beaucoup de voie entre 8c et 9a. C’est un peu une falaise avec le style espagnol, un mur de 70 mètres à colonnette. Le paradis à côté de la maison…
Last year, I did two 70m 9a and this year I did another two 35m 9a. Next year, I reckon I’ll go for another 9a that I’ve been training on this year. I’ll also try to do a 9a+ which is the hardest route on this crag. I haven’t pushed myself to go and check it out but now I really need to get myself over there!
Since La Balme de Yenne is near my house, I can go there often with my friends or my girlfriend, just for the day. It’s so easy to get there, and that’s what I like about it. When we go on a climbing trip for a few days or a few weeks, it’s always quite stressful to start new tough routes because I know I have to knuckle down. Otherwise when I go home, I forget all the different moves and if I go back, I have to start all over again or simply give up!
But when it’s close to home, it doesn’t matter as much, because you know you can get back there anytime. So that’s the reason why it’s so convenient. Soon enough, I will have done all the routes on La Balme de Yenne, so it’ll be time for me to find a new playground 🙂
L’année passée j’ai réalisé deux 9a de 70 mètres et cette année deux autres 9a de 35 mètres. L’année prochaine, je pense que je ferai un autre 9a que j’ai travaillé cette année. Je vais aussi essayer de faire la voie la plus difficile de la falaise, un 9a+. J’ai pas encore réussi à me motiver pour aller voir cette ligne mais il faut maintenant !
Comme la Balme de Yenne est à côté de chez moi, je peux régulièrement aller avec mes amis ou ma copine grimper juste pour la journée et cette facilitée est vraiment très agréable. Quand on part en trip d’escalade plusieurs jours ou plusieurs semaines, c’est toujours le stress de commencer des projets difficiles car je suis obligé de le faire. Si non après quand rentre et j’oubli tout les mouvements.. Donc la prochaine fois, je devrai recommencer le travail ou abandonner !
Mais quand c’est à la maison, c’est égale car on peut revenir n’importe quand alors. J’aime beaucoup cette facilitée.. Mais bientôt j’aurai fait toutes les voies alors je devrai faire des km pour trouver des nouveaux jeux 🙂
