The Season of Sagan

PETER SAGAN

::

In Argentina the World Tour season begins, like in all first appointments Sagan is excited, anxiously waiting. The first stage race of the year, which for seven days in January held everyone in suspense.

Second place in the second stage! Not a victory as such but his form bodes well for a season that proves to be full of success.

Another 5 second places follow, but when you carry the champions stripes on your skill it is merely a prelude to a well orchestrated work. As in Baroque music when the prelude is often combined with an escape, these early season second places are followed by his first win of the season in the 78th edition of Ghent-Wevelgem.

With little time to recover the Northern Classics are tough races that leave their mark, you do not win without sustaining injury, you do not win without both the body and mind.

The 27 pave sections see Sagan finish in 11th position.

The success continues. A sprint win for the first stage against the best fastmen in the world cements his record for the most stage wins of the race.

European Championships – 232,9km

18th September 2016

The desire to win makes a champion.

Nine moths have passed since Sagan’s first victory in January but in September, after a year as the World Champion, the green jersey of the Tour de France, a Monument victory and multiple stage wins in Plumelec there was victory again. This time with Sagan crowned as the European champion. What is left to win for a champion like him? There is one more goal left… the UCI World Tour points classification.

Two wins at the Eneco Tour – the result of Peter’s determination and tenacity allows him to reach the first position in the standings, with his hands raised to the heavens. Crowned as winner of the World Tour.
